__________________________________________________.
Using race as one factor in college admissions increases minority
students' chances of getting into college, thus ensuring a diverse
student body. In the case of Grutter v. Bollinger, the Supreme Court
considered promoting racial and ethnic diversity in college campuses
so important that it voted to uphold the University of Michigan's
admissions policy, which considers a minority student's race a positive
factor in the admissions process as long as the student's race is
not the only defining factor. The Supreme Court understood that diversity
promotes exposure to other races and cultures, which helps break down
racial stereotypes and fosters tolerance and acceptance of others.
In general, diversity on college campuses benefits society as a whole.
