Political freedom means that all people have the right to express their preferences, to vote, to seek office, and to meet and criticize government actions and government leaders free from government control. Political freedom is necessary because it allows people to express their needs and preferences, and it enables the government to take these needs and preferences into consideration when making policy. However, because everyone has political freedom, the government usually receives conflicting and contradictory preferences.
